bigfish and The Maverick

22 January 2009   6:00pm - 10:00pm
London Transport Museum, Covent Garden Piazza, London WC2E 7BB

We are delighted to confirm that the next bigfish event will take place on Thursday 22 January 2009.  We really hope you can join us, as we have a fantastic evening planned to kick start the new year.

Our speaker will be Luke Johnson, Chairman of Channel 4 Television, writer of the weekly column on Entrepreneurship for the Financial Times and formerly ‘The Maverick' for the Sunday Telegraph.

In 1993, Luke and his partners took control of Pizza Express. He subsequently became Chairman, growing the business from 12 owned restaurants to over 250, and taking the share price from 40p to over 900p. After selling out in 1999, he started Signature Restaurants, which owned The Ivy and Le Caprice, as well as the Belgo chain, going on to sell the business in 2005. Luke also started the Strada restaurant concept from scratch and took the chain to 30 units, before selling it in late 2005. The total proceeds from these two disposals were in excess of £90 million.

Luke became Chairman of Channel 4 Television Corporation in January 2004. Since then, he has appointed a new CEO, restructured the board and seen the organisation enjoy record ratings, revenues and surplus.

Since 2000, Luke has run Risk Capital Partners Ltd., focusing on private equity deals. He has also been a principal owner of GRA, the UK's largest greyhound track owner, since early 2005. Luke is currently part owner and Chairman of Superbrands, Giraffe Restaurants and Patisserie Valerie.

We do hope you are able to attend this bigfish event. The evening will not only be very entertaining, but will be an opportunity to meet with some of London's most interesting and accomplished entrepreneurs.

As we have a limited number of places at each event, please ensure you register your interest.
